Information about FREDERIKSBERG Frederiksberg is the fifth largest local authority in Denmark and its most densely populated town with 91.000 inhabitants. It is located in an enclave in the municipality of Copenhagen. It covers an area of 8.7 sq. km, and is both the smallest and the most densely populated town in the country. It is a modern and metropolitan city, with a residential area supplied with all the associated services.Frederiksberg has many parks and leisure facilities which provide the capital with a green oasis which has its own special, historic charm. The origin of Frederiksberg dates back to 1651, when Frederik III gave 20 peasants of Dutch origin from Amager the right to settle in "New Holland Town", and cultivate the previously Royal land. Frederiksberg’s castle was then built by Frederik IV between 1700 and 1703 as a country residence for the Royal family. “New Holland Town”, which is located at the foot of the castle’s hill, then became known as Frederiksberg. Frederiksberg has always been a favourite excursion destination for Copenhageners, because of its open green spaces. Since then, Frederiksberg has enjoyed a reputation as the romantic oasis of the capital. This town offers an exciting blend of culture, open spaces and excellent shopping facilities, as well as a thriving café life and good places to eat. Federiksberg is also known for its wealth of entertainment and cultural events.
